I think my main problem is this: girls who use it as a way to get attention. I know there are plenty of chicks who are in fact attracted to both sexes and would get into a relationship with one or the other or both for that matter, but you have to admit, there are plenty of "drunk bi" girls - THAT is the crap that is just stupid.

But yeah, label = bad.

oh I hate the type that only make out with girls at drunken parties. That is why so many guys think, when they see two girls together, that it is two for the price of one. Ugh. Sooo annoying.

I'm very much in favour of people being seen as unique individuals so i try not to do it myself, but i do sometimes find myself catergorising people. I suppose its human nature.

it is unreal how often I will go to a GAY bar, and still get hit on by straight guys, who go there to pick up lesbian couples? It never happens, or at least, not that I have ever seen. But they try. And when a guy comes onto me and I say "Sorry, I'm gay" they ALMOST always respond with "ohhh really... even better;)"... ummm, not for you?

DO NOT read me wrong though. I do believe that some are bisexual. but if you can't date a girl, or fuck her at least, I wouldn't personally describe you as gay. Attraction is different. I am gay, but I can still look at a good looking male, and see that he is attractive. I don't want anything to do with him sexually though.

I can agree with that. I've lost count of the number of times i've seen straight women get drunk and then act all gay without any real desire to see it all the way through. It would piss me off if i were a lesbian or a bisexual woman.

The joke, I should hope not. The notion, yes--he postulates that each person is born bisexual, but due to one's parents, societal norms etc., one then represses, to differing degrees, one side of their sexuality.

The notion itself, however, is a pretty common notion. Freud was just the first person daring enough to claim it. Though it has little to do with repression and more to do with how you naturally are, imo.

And when you say 'naturally are', what exactly are you referring to...genetics? Also, do you believe that one's sexual feelings are independent of societal influences? I emphasise feelings because one consciously stating that he/she is bi, hetero etc, can, and is, influenced by society. Ultimately, is sexual orientation, based exclusively on sexual feelings, immovable? (tbh, I'm not entirely sure of the reason for my question here).

Freud was a psychoanalyst, not a psychologist. Psychoanalysis still holds a lot of water when it comes to cultural studies and critical theory. Less so for individual psychological development.

I've explained my position before on this.. I hesitate to say anything concrete.. because like all things in life.. there is a cultural development and a biological development.. In the end, i feel almost all of who we are as people derives from social constructionism.. But when it comes to preference on a sexual level, that somehow seems to be quite a bit different. That, in my mind, is almost purely innate (you can use genetic, if you want, but I think that's a bit unfair and not the compelte truth to the term "innate").. There are those who are socially constructed as homosexuals, but I don't think they are in the majority.

It used to be "cool" in high school or whatever, but now I'm in college and I feel pressure to say I'm straight, or that my sexual preference is "not applicable", as if I don't really know what I feel.

You're right that a lot of them are like that though.

I think maybe because of the whole gay rights movement and such that bisexuals are the next ones to demand respect... it seems there's pressure to be one extreme or another, aka gay or straight. But everyone's somewhere on this scale from completely heterosexual to completely homosexual, and being stuck in the middle can really suck sometimes. I don't feel like I "came out" and had a community that would accept me if the other didn't. I'm just that social butterfly that flirts between the two.
Though I don't think they should be/are necessarily separate.

I don't hide it, but that's one of the reasons I feel like I should sometimes.

Just because I haven't been in a relationship with a girl doesn't mean I'm only bi-curious or just a straight girl who likes to randomly hook up with girls for attention, or any other label. Hell, I haven't had a real relationship with a guy either.
It's so confusing.
I never had to prove that I liked guys just because I didn't sleep with them or get in a relationship, so why is there pressure to do so with girls?
