We don't have to like the bailouts...but what else can be done at this point? GM is saying that at this rate, by mid January they wont be able to conduct business. Thats what...roughly 250,000 people who would lose their jobs.

If there's a massive economic failure and lots of people lose their jobs, there won't be other jobs for them to get. How is this not registering with you? Is it those ridiculous sun glasses? We're talking about massive economic failure here; not a few people losing their job at Borders. What if the car industry plummets and several factories get shut down in Detroit? Do you know how many people will JUST need to find another job? Oh, I suppose they can JUST move, too?

On a related note, a massive job loss coupled with any Obama plan to get illegal-immigrants citizenship is going to spell disaster. I've been to Mexico and met the people. The indigenous population is extremely polite and nice. I wish those people could come up here and work to support their families, but if the economy takes a bigger dive and 100s of 1000s of people lose their jobs, you can bet there will be much greater illegal outlash. What the economy needs right now is more jobs; not more people.

Yes, I am actually. The bailout money went to companies who took on risky loans. Those companies can't afford to stay in business because people aren't paying their loans, so the bailout money (taxpayers) will repay those loans instead. I am a taxpayer, therefore I am now paying off loans that I had nothing to do with because other people felt the need to live outside their means. Explain why I should find this acceptable.

The economy has been prosperous since the early 1990s and is overdue for a correction? Econ 101 shows us that prosperity and decline in an economy is cyclical. I presume you haven't been taught that.

I can live off savings for two years without a job. I'd play lots of video games while looking for jobs, and hopefully the economy will improve some in that time. I'm sure other jobs will open up.
